Prayer for Forgiveness
Father, today we ask forgiveness of all the negative and harmful words we have spoken about ourselves. We do not want to abuse ourselves in such a way again. Transform our thoughts and let us understand how marvelously you made us. Change our habits so we use our tongue to speak hope and favor upon our lives. Allow us to see ourselves through your eyes. You made us in your image. Your plans for us are great. Your promises for us are yes and amen. Allow us to rest in the truth of your word. When the enemy desires to bind us to our past decisions and choices, remind us of the fact you’ve already forgiven us of those transgressions. We must handle ourselves with care, just as you do.
Your only Son loved us enough to come to earth and experience the worst pain imaginable so we could be forgiven. Your mercy flows to us in spite of our faults and failures. Your Word says to “clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.” Help us demonstrate unconditional love today, even to those who hurt us.
We understand that even though we feel scarred, our emotions don’t have to control our actions. Father, may Your sweet words saturate our mind and direct our thoughts. Help us release the hurt and begin to love as Jesus loves. We want to see out offenders through the Savior’s eyes. If we can be forgiven, so can they. We understand there are no levels to your love. We are all your children, and your desire is that none of us should perish.
When the things of old come to discourage us and keep us bound, remind us to take control of our thoughts and not dwell on the past. We are all new creatures in You. Allow us to show grace to ourselves and others every single day. Allow us to love past what we see and experience. Allow us to be led by truth and logic, not by our misleading emotions. We ask for mending on broken relationships that you desire us to have. Bring families back together. Bring friends back together. Bring partners back together. And for those relationships that you desire for us to walk away from permanently, allow us to release them without anger, offense, or hurt in our hearts. Thank you for the gift of forgiveness. We ask theses things through faith in Jesus’ name. Amen.
